David
Durham, founder of the group, was born in Ft.
Collins, Colorado. The oldest of eight children, his family moved many times
throughout the country before settling in Lubbock, Texas. He graduated from
Texas Tech and from the University of Colorado School of Law. David grew up
in a family that loved to sing - especially around the piano on Sunday
evenings. His dad would chord the old songs and everyone would sing along.
He bought an electric guitar when he was 12, took a few lessons on it and
decided that he did not like the electric sound - so traded it in on his
first acoustic - and has been an acoustic guy ever since. David was a member
of several singing groups throughout high school and college. He worked at
Glacier National Park during the summers of his college years and was the
host of the weekly hootenanny show, put on by the employees for the guests
of Many Glacier Hotel. He was the founding member of The Many Minstrels, a
group of nine young men and women who modeled themselves after The New
Christy Minstrels. He has been active in playing and singing in the Grand
Valley for many years and formed the King'n Trio in December of 2001. He
plays the guitar and sings lead vocals for the group. David has been a
member of the Grand Junction Rotary Club since 1993, is a past president of
the club and a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, has served on the Family Health
West Foundation Board, the United Way Distribution Panel and the Avalon
Theatre Foundation Board. He is married
to Soni and they have three children ( Amy, Angie and Shad ) and three
grandchildren (Izzy, Eric and Victoria). His hobbies include golf, fishing, camping
and travel. |

Russ
Williams was born in Boise, Idaho
and hitchhiked out to the Grand Valley when he was nine months old. He grew
up in Fruita, where his first exposure to music was picking out tunes on the
family upright piano. When he first started his formal music education, he
told his teacher that he wanted to learn to play music in the worst way --
and sure enough it happened! He enjoys all kinds of music, from rock 'n
roll to country to classical and, of course, folk and acoustic music. Prior
to joining the King N Trio in 2007, Russ has played in bluegrass and rock 'n
roll bands and has sung in various vocal groups in the Grand junction area.
Russ and his wife JoLynn
keep busy raising their two sons Nathan (7) and Joseph (5). They recently
purchased the Orchard Mesa Christmas Tree Farm on East Orchard Mesa in the
Grand Valley, which promises to keep them even busier. But Russ will always
make time for playing music, which he describes as "good therapy".
For the past 28 years, Russ
has worked in the corporate aviation business maintenance business in Grand
Junction. In addition to music, his interests include flying antique and
classic airplanes, Christmas tree farming, and most importantly spending
time with family and friends in the great Grand Valley and the surrounding
mountains. |
